The FECO has received financing in the amount of US$8, 200, 00 0(including 200, 000 for PPG project) equivalent from the World Banktoward the cost of the Proje ct Preparation Grant (PPG) for the Capacity Strengthening for Implementation of MinamataConvention on Mercury in China, and it intends to apply part of the proceeds to payments for consulting services to beprocured under this project. This project will be j ointly financed by the GEF.

 

The PPG project willinclude the following components (1) p rovision of technical support for the formulation of an environmentalrisk management framework for contamination from a primary mercury mine area; and (2) provision of technical support for selectionand assessment of potential technical approaches to remindi ng contaminated sites.

 

The full-sizedproject will include the following components (1< /em>) development of national strategy and sectoral andprovincial action plans; (2) capacity strengthening for mercury management and risk assessment; and (3) projectmanagement.

 

Procurement of contracts financed by th e World Bank will be conducted through theprocedures as specified in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Procurement under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits (July 2014), and is open to all eligible bidders  as defined in the guidelines. Consulting services will be selected in accordance with theWorld Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Bor rowers (July2014).

 

Specific procurement notices for contracts for consultancy services will be anno unced, as theybecome available, in UN Development Business and the World Bank’s external website (for contracts equivalent toor larger than USD 300, 000), as well as http://www.mepfeco.org.cn and http://www.chinabidding.com.cn.
